Apple has officially unveiled Siri AI at WWDC 2026, calling it the most significant upgrade to its virtual assistant since its inception. The announcement came alongside the introduction of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27.

The new Siri AI leverages Apple's next-generation Apple Intelligence framework, enabling the assistant to perform complex multi-step tasks across apps, understand context over longer conversations, and take actions on behalf of the user with explicit permission.

Key features announced include:

  • Cross-app actions: Siri can now move data between apps, chain actions, and handle multi-step workflows
  • On-device intelligence: Most processing happens locally on Apple Silicon, with private cloud compute for heavier tasks
  • Personal context awareness: Siri remembers user preferences, routines, and patterns over time
  • Developer APIs: New App Intents framework lets developers expose their app's capabilities to Siri

Apple also announced performance improvements across the OS, with app launch speeds significantly boosted on devices running iOS 27. The updates are expected to ship to the public in September 2026.

The move positions Apple more aggressively against competitors like Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, which have been incorporating generative AI capabilities over the past year.
